A Carnegie Library Theft Update. After more than a year of investigations and trial,  Greg Priore and John Schulman pleaded guilty on Monday, January 13, 2020 to theft.

It began in  June 2018. Documents, released by the Allegheny County Common Please Court, were unsealed stating Gregory Priore and John Schulman were under investigation for theft, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.  Gregory Priore was former archivist of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.  John Schulman was co-owner of Caliban Book Shop. Library inventories revealed a total of nearly 320 items were missing.  All items were removed from the Oliver Room at the library’s main branch in Oakland.  The items were valued at more than $8 million. The thefts occurred over a 20 year period.

In July 2018 indictments were handed down. Documents alleged Priore stole the items.  Schulman sold them.

This week with the guilty pleas, the two men will be sentenced by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Alexander P. Bicket on April 17.
