Manuscript Definition
According to the Society of American Archivists, a manuscript can be defined as follows:
- a handwritten document
- an unpublished document
- (usually pl.) synonym for manuscript collection
- a draft of a book, article, or other work intended for publication
However, we at the Manuscript Society take a somewhat wider view. In our opinion, manuscripts can encompass all documents, whether handwritten or type written, that for historical, cultural, or artistic purposes should be preserved.
