Manuscript Society Members Discover Hidden Gems in Cambridge
This fall, a group of Manuscript Society members traveled to Cambridge and Oxford, England for an unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience. Over several days, they explored some of the cities’ most storied libraries, museums, and archives—places that hold centuries of history and some of the world’s most extraordinary manuscripts.
Highlights included private tours of the Cambridge University Library, Wormsley Library (owned by Mark Getty) and the majestic Angelsey Abbey where members viewed rare treasures such as illuminated medieval works and letters written by famous figures from history. Along the way, curators and scholars shared insights into their ongoing research and preservation efforts, giving members a deeper appreciation for these remarkable collections.
The trip was both inspiring and rewarding—a chance to connect with fellow enthusiasts, discover hidden gems, and celebrate the enduring legacy of manuscripts and autographs.
Discussions are already underway for another international adventure in 2027. There are so many incredible options – stay tuned for details on where the Society will be visiting next time!
