The bitter denunciations of the media by President Donald Trump are nothing new. The media delve into the public policy and private life of the person in the oval office and share what they learn with their constituents.  The love-hate relationship between the president and the press began with the very first president of the United States, George Washington, and hasn’t stopped.  In 1995, two Manuscript Society members, following up on remarks made by President Harry Truman in a letter to Rufus Burrus in 1951 concerning the abuse of the chief executive by the press, wrote an article to this point. “Presidential Press(ures)” by Stuart Lutz and John Reznikoff follows Truman’s lead and explores his comments on vilified presidents. It is an interesting look at this pivotal if contentious relationship.
